We perform diagnostic checks and fault finding on all vehicles
with fuel injection systems and electronic ignition systems with
EOBD or maufactures protocols,
whether the engine is a non start or has running problems.
What is EOBD?
EOBD is an
abbreviation of European On-Board
Diagnostics.
All petrol cars sold within Europe since 1 Jan 2001, and
diesel cars manufactured from 2003, must have on-board diagnostic systems to
monitor engine emissions.
These systems were
introduced in line with European Directive 98/69/EC to monitor and reduce
emissions from cars.
All such cars must
also have a standard 16 pin EOBD diagnostic socket that provides access to this
system.
The majority of vehicles imported into New Zealand
produced after 1 Jan 2001 will have EOBD protocols built in. Vehicles produced
before this date will have different protocols which we are also equipped to
diagnose.

If your car has the engine check light
showing on the dash, either flashing or constant, this is an indication
of a fault with the engine management system, there may be a component or wiring
fault. The engine computer will set the basic settings, idle speed, mixture,
ignition timing ect, to a base setting as a 'get you home' Sometimes you may not
feel the difference in the way the car behaves, however, if left, you will burn
more fuel, have less power and can cause further damage to the
vehicle.
At Mobile Vehicle Diagnostic Centre we are
fully equipped to diagnose and repair the causes of these problems.

Is this light on your dashboard
on?
Due to antilock brakes being such a high
factor in saving lives and preventing serious injury, all vehicles produced in Europe and
for the European market, by law have to be fitted with ABS as standard. In New
Zealand you will see a vast percentage of vehicles with this system fitted.
When the ABS computer detects a fault it
will turn on the ABS warning light, like the one above. When this light is on
the ABS is switched off and your vehicle will resume to normal braking, this
will increase your stopping distance making it harder to avoid possible
dangerous situations. With the ABS light on you will also fail your Warrant Of
fitness.
At
Mobile Vehicle Diagnostic Centre we are fully equipped to diagnose and repair
the causes of these problems.
